Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s latest release is a tribute to the legendary rembetika singer Marika Ninou, who is considered to be one of the major representatives of this unique musical idiom.

Eleftheria Arvanitaki started here career in the early eighties singing rembetika and laika songs as a member of the group named “Opisthodromiki Kompania”, i.e. “retrograde company”. It was a group of amateur musicians playing the music originating from the refugees of Asia Minor who had been deported from their homeland and relocated to the motherland Greece facing hardships, hurt feelings, poverty and non-acceptance. Rembetika songs had been banned from the Greek regime and Opisthodromiki Kompania helped in the revival of the idiom. 

Even after following a solo career, Eleftheria Arvanitaki always maintained her passion for rembetika and laika songs, which she has recorded live from her shows and included in her live albums.

Marika Ninou, the main performer of Vassilis Tsitsanis – one of the most important Greek composers – is a singer that Arvanitaki really loved and a singer whose voice and performance abilities Arvanitaki studied while developing her own career. She felt like recording a number of songs that Ninou originally performed and released this EP of eight tracks which have a ‘back to the roots’ feeling for Eleftheria Arvanitaki. The title of the EP states the timeless character of these songs who are live and known to all generations.
